Baltic 21 has a project-to-policy approach which means that we transform the findings or outcomes of a Lighthouse Project into general policy recommendations that can be applied in the Baltic Sea Region and beyond. These recommendations are introduced and promoted on different political levels such as national governments, the European Commission and the United Nations.
OUR FOCUS: SUSTAINABILITY
Baltic 21 works with all aspects of sustainable development. This means that we are not just targeting purely environmental issues, but also social and economic actions in an integrated way.
For the period 2010–2015, we are focused on four strategic areas:
Climate change
Goal: Significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt our region to climate change.
Sustainable urban and rural development
Goal: Improve quality of life for people in both urban and rural areas and create a region of sustainable cities and towns in symbiosis with rural areas.
Sustainable consumption and production
Goal: Reduce the ecological impact by the average citizen in our region; promote sustainable lifestyles and development of green economies.
Innovations and education for sustainable development
Goal: Become a leading region on eco-innovations and education for sustainable development, where sustainability is an integrated part of all education.
